Mothering Sunday

Mothering Sunday is a Christian holiday celebrated throughout Europe that falls on the 4th Sunday in Lent. Secularly it became an occasion for honouring mothers of children and giving them presents. It is increasingly being called Mother's Day, although that holiday has other origins. In the UK it is celebrated in the same way as Mother's Day is celebrated elsewhere.
During the sixteenth century, people returned to their mother church, the main church or cathedral of the area, for a service to be held on Laetare Sunday. This was either a large local church, or more often the nearest Cathedral. Anyone who did this was commonly said to have gone "a-mothering", although whether this preceded the term Mothering Sunday is unclear. In later times, Mothering Sunday became a day when domestic servants were given a day off to visit their mother church, usually with their own mothers and other family members. It was often the only time that whole families could gather together, since on other days they were prevented by conflicting working hours.
Children and young people who were "in service"(servants for rich people) were given a day off on that date so they could visit their families (or, originally, return to their "mother" church). The children would pick wild flowers along the way to place in the church or give to their mothers. Eventually, the religious tradition evolved into the Mothering Sunday secular tradition of giving gifts to mothers.

Ok I am not denying it the above was copied from Wikipedia.

For me Mothering Sunday is so special for starters I Had a mother . My mum only had the joy of being my Mum for 16 years and a few days because sadly she died way to soon.
But it is not all negative because there were two substitute Mums waiting in the wings , One was her sister Pat who again died to soon two years ago. Right up until the last time I saw here when she told me I was like a third daughter to her she was deffinatley like a mum to me even tho she lived thousands of miles away from me In Spokane.
The second Mummy was my awesome Godmother Sylvia who was mums best friend she is until this day My Mum . Sylvia has been there for me since before my Mum died. And whilst she will not read this I want her to know I love her so much.

My second reason for loving this day is that God gave me 4 beautiful children and allowed me to look after a 5th one after his own mum died. I say he is adopted but no legally just by mutual choice on all sides.
So I have 5 reasons to love mothering sunday not forgetting Harry my wonderful Grandson.

I prefer the history behid the way the UK celebrate this day. Dont get me wrong it is lovley that around the world children celebrate their mothers, for me tho it is a bit commercialised by Hallmark.

My final bit is this

Galatians 4:26

New International Version (NIV)
26 But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.
